Online trade information system boosts Rwanda’s single window

Rwanda, famous for the improvements to its business environment, breaks new ground by launching a trade information portal.

Once fully implemented, the trade portal will ensure Rwanda’s compliance with article 1 of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) on trade information, in particular article 1.2 that obliges governments to publish practical guides on trade related procedures. Rwanda ratified the agreement on 22 February 2017.

The trade portal will be based on UNCTAD’s eRegulations system whose core feature is a step-by-step guide to procedures relating to trade. It will inform traders of the easiest way to import, export and transit goods in and out of Rwanda. This is a crucial step. At a time when Rwanda is implementing the various stages of its single window, it is essential that users – especially small- and medium-sized enterprises – be kept informed of all improvements in trade regulations.
